Things to do in Gran Canaria
Much like its neighbouring islands of Lanzarote and Tenerife, Gran Canaria comprises a dramatic volcanic landscape. The island's centre is dominated by mountain terrain – ideal for hiking and exploring traditional villages.
Many of our villas to rent in Gran Canaria are near the coast, where you'll be dazzled by the glorious stretches of sand and ample swimming and water sports opportunities in the Atlantic Ocean.
Golf is very popular here too – why not enjoy the best of both worlds at Salobre Golf Resort?
Las Palmas
Gran Canaria's capital, Las Palmas, is a short drive from most of our villas, and there's so much to do in this bustling city. From taking a stroll in the centre and visiting the many shops, to enjoying a more authentic experience in the market town, it's definitely worth the trip.
The kids will enjoy the bus trip to the botanical gardens, which shows the impressive array of plants grown on the island.
Another must-see is the Cauldron Of Bandama (Caldera de Bandama). It's one of the things that makes Gran Canaria such a stunning island, and many consider the volcanic crater a wonder.
You can stay at the top, get some Instagram-worthy shots of the spectacular views, or hike down into the crater.
Playa del Ingles
Playa del Ingles is a part of Maspalomas, but many would agree it's almost like its own resort, as there's so much to do for families. Better still, it's within a stone's throw of most of our villas, so you can enjoy a relaxing golf resort while entertaining the kids.
HolidayWorld is always popular with the children, and it has an array of activities, including bowling, karaoke, a small amusement park and an epic escape room. There's also plenty of delicious food on offer.
Beaches in Gran Canaria
You'll encounter sun-drenched beaches all over the third largest Canary Island, with a wide variety of gold, white and even black volcanic sands lining the coast. Our Gran Canaria villas are a few minutes away from the beautiful, sandy beaches in Maspalomas – where a beach of over 6km and hundreds of hectares of dunes awaits.
Visit La Playa de Mogan
Playa de Mogan is a small town in Gran Canaria but has so much beauty. The main selling point of this town is its beautiful beach and fantastic diving experiences. You can take a boat tour, stroll through the small town and enjoy relaxing on the beach.
Playa de las Canteras
If golden sands and fun-filled activities are your idea of heaven, then don't forget to take the kids to Playa de las Canteras. The stretches of sand go on for 3km, and it's a favourite location for families.
There's something for everyone with plenty of water activities and a lively selection of restaurants.
Nightlife in Gran Canaria
Maspalomas is awash with lively bars and clubs close to the famous Playa del Inglés. You can also enjoy a chilled-out evening with live music and ocean views in nearby Meloneras or Bahia Feliz.
Our Gran Canaria villas offer plenty of options for entertaining yourselves without leaving the villa, perfect if you want to enjoy a night in too!
Food and Drink in Gran Canaria
Our villas in Gran Canaria have fully equipped kitchens and barbecues for you to cook up a feast in the comfort of your surroundings. For a change of scenery, restaurants around the island serve a variety of international cuisines, but it's also worth sampling some of the local specialities.
Fresh seafood is always a popular option, or why not try Sancocho – a broth made from fish and vegetables and served with Canarian potatoes? Wash it down with a glass of the local red wine, and you're all set!
History and Culture in Gran Canaria
Las Palmas is Gran Canaria's capital and cultural hub, where you can potter around the cobbled streets and be inspired by its rich past. Gothic cathedrals, such as the Santa Ana Cathedral, have a fascinating architecture that will take your breath away.
Archaic museums tell the tale of the island's history and the Cueva Pintada Museum which displays the rich history of Gran Canaria's aboriginal people, including genuine remains of historical houses.
Guests can easily combine their relaxation on the picturesque beaches of Maspalomas with exploring local landmarks.
Our Gran Canaria holiday homes are close to several historic sites in the area, including the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, the perfect place to set off on a walk into the famous dunes.
Experience nature at its finest
People choose Gran Canaria holidays over the other Canary Islands due to their abundant nature. Cocodrilo Park is home to plenty of crocodiles and other animals who have all been abused and mistreated in some way. As the only animal sanctuary in the Canaries, it's a beautiful experience for children and adults alike. Or head to Palmitos Park to meet more animals, including a range of birds and exotic species.
