Best Places to Go on Holiday with Toddlers

In a hurry?

Airport queues. Missed naps. Restaurant meltdowns. A suitcase that somehow contains half your house. Holidays with toddlers can feel like an adventure before you’ve even left the airport.

The good news? Choose the right destination and travelling with little ones can be wonderfully simple.

The best holidays with toddlers usually have a few things in common: manageable journeys, easy access to everyday essentials, toddler-friendly beaches, plenty of shade and simple activities for slower days. Just as importantly, you need somewhere to stay that works around your family’s routine.

That’s where a villa comes into its own. Breakfast can happen when everyone wakes up, naps don’t need to fit around hotel schedules, and your private pool is only a few steps away. Explore our villa holidays and find your family’s home from home.

8 of the Best Holidays with Toddlers

So, where should you go? From sandy Mediterranean shores to theme park adventures, these destinations make family life a little easier without taking the fun out of your holiday.

Majorca – Best for Stress-Free Family Sunshine

For an easy introduction to travelling abroad with a toddler, Majorca ticks plenty of boxes.

Head north to Alcudia or Puerto Pollensa, and you’ll find long sandy beaches, promenades made for leisurely pushchair strolls and supermarkets and restaurants close at hand. Playa de Alcúdia and Playa de Muro give little paddlers plenty of space, while Hidropark Alcúdia can break up your beach days.

Prefer somewhere smaller? Cala d’Or is dotted with compact sandy coves where days can be as simple as sandcastles, snacks and a splash in the sea.

Cyprus – Best for Sunshine Beyond Summer

If you want to sidestep the busiest school holiday periods without giving up on sunshine, Cyprus deserves a place near the top of your list.

Its long holiday season gives families greater flexibility, while warm seas and plenty of straightforward days out make it easy to settle into toddler time.

The Paphos region is a particularly convenient base, with plenty of family amenities and options such as Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark. Coral Bay is another popular choice for relaxed family days.

On the other side of the island, Protaras offers easy access to Fig Tree Bay and Konnos Bay, while Protaras Ocean Aquarium provides a change of scenery when you’ve had enough sand between your toes.

The Algarve – Best for First Holidays Abroad

First trip abroad with your toddler? The Algarve keeps things reassuringly straightforward.

Flights from the UK are relatively short and, even better for carefully negotiated sleep schedules, Portugal has no time difference from the UK. Family-friendly towns also make supermarkets, cafés and restaurants easy to find.

Carvoeiro is a lovely option if you want somewhere smaller and relaxed, with Praia do Carvoeiro right at the heart of town. Albufeira, meanwhile, gives you a wider choice of family facilities and places to eat.

Add generous sandy beaches such as Meia Praia, and you’ve got all the ingredients for slow mornings, sandy toes and early nights back at the villa.

Rhodes – Best for Slower-Paced Family Holidays

Not every family holiday needs a packed itinerary. Sometimes a morning at the beach, an afternoon around the pool and dinner at the local taverna is more than enough.

That slower rhythm makes Rhodes particularly appealing with toddlers. Coastal resorts such as Pefkos and Kiotari put everyday holiday essentials within relatively easy reach.

For beach time, Tsambika Beach and Lindos Beach give young families sandy shores where little ones can paddle and play. Fancy a day away from the water? Farma of Rhodes Petting Zoo offers something different, while the Valley of the Butterflies can add a gentle dose of nature to your stay.

Crete – Best for Exploring Beyond the Resort

Big enough to offer plenty of variety but relaxed enough for lazy family days, Crete works well if you want to explore without filling every hour.

Chania, Rethymnon and Agia Pelagia all provide useful bases for families.

Near Chania, the sandy shores of Agii Apostoli and Chrissi Akti are useful options for relaxed beach days, with relatively sheltered water for little paddlers.

When you’re ready for an adventure, swap the bucket and spade for CRETAquarium or spend a gentle day around Lake Kournas. Then it’s back to the villa for that all-important afternoon nap.

Turkey – Best for Good-Value Family Fun

Warm weather, relaxed beach days and plenty of space to spread out make Turkey an appealing choice for families looking for great-value sunshine.

The Dalaman region is particularly well suited to laid-back family holidays. Its coastal resorts mix beautiful beaches with restaurants, shops and simple outings, so there’s no need to plan an expedition every morning.

Spend a day beside the striking blue water at Ölüdeniz, stretch out on the sand at Sarigerme Beach or visit İztuzu Beach before retreating to your villa.

With a toddler in tow, that freedom to alternate days out with days doing very little can be exactly what everyone needs.

Costa del Sol – Best for a Familiar Family Break

Want somewhere that feels easy from the moment you arrive? The Costa del Sol is a tried-and-tested family favourite.

A manageable journey from the UK, established resorts and plenty of restaurants, shops and everyday essentials remove many of the little stresses that matter when you’re travelling with a toddler.

Beach days are easy to come by. Playa de la Carihuela provides plenty of space for seaside fun, while Playa de Burriana is another option for a day by the water.

If little legs need a break from building sandcastles, Bioparc Fuengirola makes a fun family outing. Afterwards, head back to the villa, put the kettle on and let them splash in the pool. Simple.

Orlando – Best for Big Adventures with Little Ones

Orlando takes more planning than a short-haul Mediterranean break. You’re looking at a longer flight from the UK and a significant time difference, so it won’t suit every toddler.

For families ready to go big, however, few destinations can compete.

Walt Disney World, LEGOLAND Florida, DUPLO Valley and Peppa Pig Theme Park all offer experiences aimed at younger visitors. Staying around Disney and Kissimmee also puts you close to the action.

Villa communities such as Emerald Island and Windsor Island add extra leisure facilities alongside the space of your own villa.

What to Look for in a Toddler-Friendly Holiday

The best destination on paper isn’t necessarily the best one for your family. Think about the little details that will make each day easier.

Start with the journey. How long is the flight, and what does the airport transfer look like at the other end? An extra hour in a car can feel considerably longer after a flight with an overtired two-year-old.

Next, look at your immediate surroundings. Can you reach the beach easily with a pushchair? Are supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and pharmacies nearby? Having familiar snacks or forgotten essentials within easy reach can save plenty of hassle.

Your accommodation matters too. Look for shade around outdoor areas and air conditioning for warm evenings. If you plan to spend lots of time around the pool, check its layout and safety features. Families wanting an added barrier between little explorers and the water can browse our villas with gated pools.

The aim isn’t to plan the “perfect” holiday. It’s to remove as many everyday obstacles as possible.

Why Villas Work So Well for Holidays with Toddlers

Toddlers don’t tend to care that breakfast finishes at ten.

They’re hungry when they’re hungry and tired when they’re tired. A villa gives you the freedom to work around them, rather than spending the holiday coaxing them towards somebody else’s timetable.

Keep favourite snacks in the fridge. Make breakfast in pyjamas. Let them nap while everyone else enjoys some quiet time by the pool.

There’s private outdoor space for playing, a washing machine ready for ice cream stains and sandy clothes, and no need to pack an enormous bag every time somebody fancies a swim.

Perhaps best of all, bedtime doesn’t mean everyone else has to go to bed. Once your toddler is settled, you’ve still got your own living space and outdoor areas to enjoy.

That feels much more like a holiday.

Find the Right Toddler-Friendly Holiday for Your Family

There’s no single winner when it comes to holidays with toddlers; best destinations lists. What makes a holiday easy depends on your family.

You might want the shortest possible journey. Perhaps warm weather is non-negotiable. Or you may have older children who need plenty of activities alongside their younger sibling.

Focus on the things that remove friction from your day. The easier it is to eat, sleep, play and get around, the more time you have for the moments you actually travelled for.

Bringing grandparents or another family along? Browse our large villas for extra space. For families prioritising pool safety, explore our villas with gated pools.

Then all that’s left is deciding who gets the first ice cream.

Holidays with Toddlers FAQs

Majorca, the Algarve and the Costa del Sol are particularly easy options thanks to manageable journeys, family-friendly resorts and good access to beaches and everyday essentials. The best choice depends on your toddler’s routine and how much travelling, sightseeing and activity you want during your stay.

For families travelling from the UK, destinations such as Majorca, the Algarve and the Costa del Sol offer relatively manageable flights. Rhodes, Crete and Cyprus require a little more flying time but remain popular choices if sunshine and Mediterranean beach days are your priority.

Both can work, but villas offer families more control over their routine. You can prepare meals whenever your toddler is hungry, keep familiar food in the kitchen and handle naps without worrying about hotel timetables. Separate living areas also give adults somewhere to relax once little ones are asleep.

Start with the things your toddler relies on most: suitable clothing, sun protection, favourite snacks for the journey, comfort items and any essential toiletries or medication. Check what your chosen villa already provides before packing larger items. Knowing what shops are nearby can also stop you carrying more than necessary.

There isn’t one perfect age. Every child and family is different. A successful toddler holiday is usually more about choosing manageable travel, family-friendly accommodation and a relaxed itinerary than waiting for a particular birthday. Build the trip around your child’s routine and leave plenty of room for slower days.
