Things to Do in Cala d'Or
Cala d'Or is known for its relaxing vibe and year-round weather, where the sun rarely retreats. As Majorca is part of the Balearic Islands, it's a popular winter destination, so you'll be able to appreciate all it has to offer throughout the year.
With its many beaches and the infamous harbour, you won't be short of natural beauty here, but that's not all Cala d'Or can entice you with.
There's also an abundance of golf courses, festivals and live music to enjoy. With so much to offer, it's no wonder this destination is so popular, and with one of our villas in Cala d'Or, you can have it all.
Beaches in Cala d'Or
As you'd expect from Cala d'Or (literal translation is Golden Bay), there are plenty of beautiful beaches to appreciate. The seas are relatively calm, with plenty of activities for children to enjoy. However, some get busy – especially in peak seasons, so it helps to know the quieter spots.
While there are a couple of large beaches, most of this popular resort town has sandy coves that offer stunning turquoise waters and rugged beauty – and our villas in Cala d'Or offer the perfect base to appreciate all this beauty.
Cala Ferrera Beach
Platja de Cala Ferrera is one of the most popular beaches for tourists, and it links to a smaller and more intimate beach, Playa de Cala Serena. This beach has a range of amenities for everyone to enjoy a fun-filled day with sun loungers and beach bars, to water sports.
Cala Gran Beach
As the biggest beach in Cala d'Or, it attracts lots of tourists daily, so if you're going in peak season, it's best to book loungers with umbrellas in advance.
With a range of beach bars and restaurants, you'll find plenty to keep the kids entertained, and there are always numerous lifeguards on duty.
Cala Esmeralda Beach
This beach can get quite busy because of the number of surrounding hotels, but despite that, it has an intimate feel and plenty of gorgeous scenery. The beach also uses ladders on the rocks for people swimming in deeper areas.
Cala Serena Beach
This is a smaller, more secluded beach, but it's perfect for those looking to escape the crowds. Its calm waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Cala Egos
Located slightly outside the main area of Cala d'Or, this is a small, peaceful beach with clear waters and soft sand, ideal for a relaxing day by the sea.
Nightlife in Cala d'Or
Mallorca attracts families and young travellers alike, but Cala d'Or offers a serene escape during the off-peak season. With fewer nightclubs, this charming resort town provides a more relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal holiday destination for those who prefer tranquillity over bustling nightlife. And our stunning villas in Cala d'Or enhance this experience further, offering luxurious accommodations and stunning views, ensuring a memorable stay.
Bliss Bar Rooftop Lounge
Cocktail lovers often make this lively venue their go-to place because of the fantastic assortment of drinks. With friendly locals and a welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder Bliss Bar is a hit.
Cala D’Or Yacht Club
This exclusive spot provides a luxurious setting with panoramic views of the marina. Cala D'Or Yacht Club is the perfect place for enjoying a refined drink in a serene environment.
Cala Gran Cocktail Bar
Tucked away at Carrer Boulevard d’Or, just minutes from the seashore, Cala Gran Cocktail Bar offers an exceptional experience. Its open-air terrace and beautifully presented cocktails make for an unforgettable evening.
After a day of sun and sea, unwind with a well-crafted drink from their extensive menu. Featuring classic favourites like the Moscow Mule, Caipirinha, and Negroni, their selection takes you on a global journey, one sip at a time.
Lola
Lola, one of the newest additions to Cala d'Or, is centrally located and brimming with charm. Its eclectic terrace features mismatched tiled tables and vibrant seating, creating an atmosphere full of character.
Not only do they serve up mouthwatering cocktails, but they're about living green, offering filtered water and supporting ocean clean-ups. The beach-inspired ambiance, complete with chill-out music from their resident DJs, extends long into the evening, making Lola a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the night.
Food and Drink in Cala d'Or
Cala d'Or offers a vibrant and diverse food and drink scene that caters to both locals and tourists. The town's culinary landscape reflects the richness of Spanish cuisine whilst also embracing international flavours. For those staying in one of our stunning villas in Cala d'Or, the variety of nearby dining options ensures that every meal can be a delightful culinary experience.
Sa Foradada
For those looking for a delicious paella accompanied by breathtaking ocean panoramas, Sa Foradada stands out as a top eatery. Perched on a cliffside overlooking the sparkling waters of the island's western coast, its setting offers an ideal vantage point for admiring the sunset. Accessible only by foot through the scenic trails of the Son Marroig estate or by boat followed by a climb up the steps from the water, reaching this gem requires a bit of effort. However, its rustic charm and famous paellas prepared on a traditional wood-fired grill, more than makes up for the journey.
Norai Restaurant
The ambiance here is unmatched, with a sunset backdrop over the sea and plates of delicious, freshly prepared fish. Try the grilled scallops as the perfect starter, followed by a succulent St. Peter's Fish straight from the grill, and top it off with delightful desserts.
Every dish is executed to perfection, complemented by a well-suited wine recommendation from Mallorca. All in all, Norai is the ideal spot for a romantic seaside dinner, with a superb selection of local fish and impeccable service.
Plaza del Pinar
Plaza del Pinar, a cosy restaurant tucked away, is a favourite among locals. Each dish here, including the local wine, is exceptional. Favourites include spicy roasted snails and chorizo, meatballs in a richly umami sauce, and Frito MallorquĂn made with lung meat. If you appreciate nose-to-tail cuisine, definitely give it a try.
History and Culture in Cala d'Or
As Cala d'Or is a relatively new town in Mallorca, you won't find any ancient Roman artefacts, but that doesn't mean it lacks culture. Also known as 'Little Ibiza', the town's beauty is down to artist Josep Costa's creative mind. He bought it in 1930 and began to build the town, and you can see his artistic influence everywhere. Some of the most popular cultural activities in the area include:
Es FortĂ
Located in Cala Egos, this is an 18th century fortress with fabulous views. You can see the history everywhere, and the original cannons remain intact. The fort is worth a visit, and you can take some great photographs.
Sant Salvador & Santueri Castle
These landmarks are within a short distance of one another, making them an excellent choice for a cultural day trip. Located in Sierra de Levante, Sant Salvador Monastery is an awe-inspiring place 500 metres above the sea.
We recommend you start here in the morning, then hike to Santueri Castle in the afternoon. The walk between the two is two and a half hours, but it's worth the trip. Of course, you can always rent a car to save time and energy.
Cala d'Or Marina
While modern, this marina reflects the town's connection to the sea. It's a bustling hub where luxury yachts and traditional fishing boats coexist. The marina is not only a place for maritime activities but also a cultural centre where visitors can enjoy local cuisine, shop for artisanal goods, and experience the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle.
The Caves of Drach
Located near the town of Porto Cristo, about a 30-minute drive from Cala d'Or, the Caves of Drach are one of Mallorca’s most famous natural landmarks. These underground caves feature impressive stalactites and stalagmites as well as Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Visitors can enjoy guided tours that include a boat ride on the lake and a classical music concert, creating a unique cultural experience.
Family-Friendly Activities in Cala d'Or
Cala d'Or might be a quieter location in Majorca, but that doesn't mean families can't have a fantastic time. Whether you want to stay in one of our charming villas in Cala d'Or or travel further afield, you'll find some great activities and day trips to entertain the little ones.
MondragĂ³ Natural Park
This park is simply stunning and well worth a visit if you appreciate the beauty of nature. At around 1,893 acres, you won't be able to see everything, but there's a great mix of dunes, ravines, forests and grassland, and an abundance of birds.
Head to Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is a vast resort with plenty of historical sites to see, and it's just under an hour away from Cala d'Or. Stroll through the town and enjoy the many shops, restaurants and bars, or head further out to Aqualand Waterpark, which is around 15 minutes away from Palma de Mallorca.
Boat Excursions
Cala d'Or is also an excellent location for boat trips, with plenty to choose between. The sailing tours are top-rated, or if you're in the need for a spot of luxury, why not rent a private yacht for the day?
