Menorca is undoubtedly known for its wealth of stunning beaches. But dig a little deeper on your villa holiday in Menorca and you’ll uncover the natural beauty of the island’s inner scenery of lush pine forests, that's brimming with wildlife.

The capital of Menorca – Mahón â€“ is certainly worth exploring with its shops and markets. Not to mention, Ciutadella to the west has a medieval section which includes an ancient cathedral. Es Grau is also worth a visit  – a small fishing village on the north coast with a sparkling beach and restaurants that will get your tastebuds tingling.

If you're looking to get your adrenaline pumping, Fornells up in the north offers incredible opportunities for snorkelling and diving. Head out for some mountain hiking near Monte Toro  â€“ Menorca's highest mountain. You can also cycle or hike the Camí de Cavalls â€“ a path that encircles the entire island offering sublime views along the way. And of course, it means you'll leave footprints in the sand of one of Menorca's many beaches.

If you want to find out more about what you can get up to on this beautiful Balearic island, we've put together a blog on our favourite must-do activities in Menorca.

With over 100 beaches to choose from, it’s easy to see why so many tourists flock to the coast here each year. Many hold the prestigious Blue Flag status meaning they’re safe for young swimmers, and a good variety of water sports can be found at beaches such as Cala Galdana, Punta PrimaBinibeca and Cala’n Porter

Our villas in Menorca are ideally located, many within walking distance of the beach, so you can fully enjoy the shallow waters, soft white sand, and azure blue waters that give many of Menorca’s beaches a true paradise feel. For example, if you choose a villa in Cala Galdana, you'll be close to one of the most beautiful coves in the Western Mediterranean, where fine golden sand gently shelves into the clear waters.

Here are some of the top beaches:

  • Cala Galdana – golden sand, shallow waters, one of the Western Mediterranean’s most beautiful coves.
  • Cala Blanca â€“ scenic cove with cliffs, hills and palm trees; restaurants, kayak/pedalo hire, sunset bars.
  • Cala’n Bosch & Son Xoriguer – family-friendly beaches with golden sand, nearby restaurants serving Menorcan favourites.
  • Cala’n Porter – quiet local beach, crystal-clear water, near Ciutadella; accessed via a narrow rocky path.
  • Cala Pregonda – northern beach with long stretches of white sand, perfect for sunbathing and family days out.
  • Arenal den Castell â€“ shallow waters, full facilities, kayak/pedalo hire and beachside restaurants.

As the sun sets, Menorca reveals a more refined side of its charm. Evenings here can be as serene or as spirited as you wish – from intimate beachside bars to elegant cocktail lounges, the island offers something for every taste.

Staying in one of our Menorca villas adds an extra layer of exclusivity – you can unwind in complete privacy, enjoying your own curated evening. Yet, should you wish to explore, charming cocktail bars await in scenic locations such as Cala’n Bosch marina or the centre of Son Bou.

The streets of Ciutadella and Mahón come alive after dusk, offering atmospheric taverns and inviting cafés where locals and visitors mingle over fine Menorcan cuisine and the island’s signature gin.

For those looking for  a touch of adventure, Cala’n Porter is home to the famous cliffside Cova d’en Xoroi, where music, breathtaking views and unique ambiance combine to create an unforgettable night out.

Mingle with the island’s culinary heritage, where every meal becomes an experience to cherish. Menorcan cuisine, deeply rooted in tradition and local produce, presents an enticing range of flavours that represent the island's unique gastronomic legacy.

The most renowned dish to sample during your Menorca villa holiday is Caldereta de Langosta – a steaming lobster stew. The capital Mahón is thought to be the birthplace of mayonnaise, whilst Mahón cheese is also a tasty local delicacy. Don’t forget to try an Ensaimada, which is a spiral-shaped breakfast pastry that can be enjoyed with chocolate, apricot or cream. Don't forget to try Xoriguer as well, which is a gin made in Mahón – you can even visit where it's made at Xoriguer Gin Distillery.

For those evenings where you want something a little more intimate, from the comfort of your own holiday villa in Menorca, immerse yourself in the island's culinary delights, stocked with the finest local produce and ingredients. Create your own Balearic fusion of flavours in a fully-equipped kitchen, and dine al fresco, surrounded by the island's natural beauty.

Simply wandering through the cobbled streets of Menorca’s towns will have you in awe. History enthusiasts will love exploring both the capital of Mahón and the ancient capital of Ciutadella –  both are home to 18th century buildings as well as Gothic Cathedrals and castles.

Unlike its comparatively faster-paced neighbouring islands of Majorca and Ibiza, life on a Menorca villa holiday offers a steady and relaxing vibe.

Menorca is easily reached by air or sea. Flights land at Menorca Airport, just outside Mahón, while ferries arrive at Mahón or Ciutadella ports.

Getting around – once on the island, there are plenty of ways to explore:

  • Bus – a reliable service connects towns and resorts, with extra routes in summer. Special services include the airport shuttle, beach routes to Macarella and Favàritx, night buses, and festival buses (Jaleo Bus).
  • Car hire – ideal for discovering hidden beaches, charming villages, and scenic countryside at your own pace.
  • Taxis and private transfers – convenient for short trips or evenings out.
  • Shared shuttles – seasonal airport-to-resort services make arrivals and departures effortless.

Staying in a Menorca villa puts you in the perfect position to enjoy both the island’s highlights and secluded corners, with the freedom to come and go as you please.

Whether you’re dreaming of sun-soaked days by the sea, discovering hidden coves, or enjoying quality time with family, Menorca offers something for every kind of escape.

A villa holiday here is the perfect way to unwind and experience the island on your own terms. At Solmar Villas, we tailor your Menorcan getaway to suit your style – from leisurely beach days to adventures off the beaten track.

What is the nicest area to stay in Menorca?

The most sought-after areas are Mahón for its lively harbour and charming streets, Ciutadella for historic beauty and picturesque bays, and Cala Galdana or Cala’n Bosch for stunning beaches and family-friendly coves. Each area offers its own charm, whether you’re after tranquillity, culture, or seaside luxury.

What villas to stay in Menorca?

Menorca villas range from secluded countryside retreats to beachfront havens with private pools. Look for properties near Cala Galdana or Binibeca for spectacular coastal views, or choose a villa near Ciutadella or Mahón to combine comfort with easy access to restaurants, bars, and local culture.

Where to avoid in Menorca?

Menorca is generally safe and peaceful, but areas around major ferry ports during peak summer hours can be busy and less serene. Avoid villas right next to crowded public beaches if you’re looking for privacy and tranquillity.

Is Menorca as nice as Majorca?

Menorca offers a different kind of charm. While Majorca is livelier and more developed, Menorca is quieter, more authentic, and unspoiled, with pristine beaches, hidden coves, and a slower pace perfect for a relaxed villa holiday.
