I have found the whole experience of booking with Solar Villas excellent. They answer emails straight away, and I always felt like someone was there if I needed them (both before going and while I was at the villa). Communication is outstanding and definitely the best I've ever experienced from a holiday company.
The villa was exactly as described and we all loved the pool which was a perfect size for 4 of us. The facilities at the villa are good, with plenty of space. There is a washing machine and dishwasher, which were very useful, and plenty of crockery and cutlery, cups, glasses, utensils, pans etc. I wouldn't advise drinking the water there, or even using it for tea or coffee as it was extremely salty. Bottled water is cheap to buy.
The location of the villa is perfect. At one end of the street is the marina (although it's down quite a steep hill), and at the other end of the street is the main town with all the restaurants and shops. The street is quiet and the pool felt very private, despite there being properties on both sides and behind. There are 3 beaches within walking distance. The closest beach, Cala Petita, is about a 9 minute walk. This is quite a small beach with only one overpriced cafe and no toilets that I could see. I would suggest walking a minute or two further down the road to Cala Gran, which is about twice the size, has toilets, a cafe and a shop, and you can hire pedalos. The kids enjoyed this beach much more. It cost €14.50 to hire a pedalo with a slide for 1 hour and it was well worth it.
There are a few little shops on the way to the beach and we stopped in these quite a lot for snacks etc. We did a main shop at the Eroski which was a bit further away, probably about a 15 minute walk, but we had a hire car so we took that and got most of our shopping there.
There were a few little niggles about the villa. The dishwasher is not brilliant, and whatever cycle we put it on, there would always be a few things that still came out dirty. Also, there are 2 bathrooms in the villa, but on arrival, there was only soap in one of them. I think little things like this make a big difference as it's annoying when you've just arrived on holiday to have to go out and buy essentials like this straight away.
The internet is very slow and sometimes cuts off altogether. It is definitely not high speed internet although my daughter did just about manage to stream YouTube, but you definitely wouldn't be able to stream anything in HD. The TV was very basic and not a smart TV, which was a real shame as if it was, we could have signed in to our Netflix account and been able to use it. The only live TV channel in English we could find was the Disney Channel. An upgrade to a smart TV and better internet would make the whole experience feel more luxurious and not so basic and I feel that little things like this really let it down as it was in such a great location with lovely space inside and out.
After a couple of days at the villa, we had an attempted break in. We were all there and we hadn't locked the gate, and someone sneaked in and tried to open the bedroom window by poking some wire thing through the shutters. The burglar was unaware that someone was in the bedroom at the time, and when he heard my partner say "hello" after he saw a bit of wire coming through the shutters, the burglar ran off.
This unfortunately spoiled the holiday a bit for us as we didn't feel very safe after that and we had felt very safe before. I contacted the rep, Suzanne, who rang us and was very understanding and said that the owner of the villa might call in later that day with some kind of locks to put on the shutters for added security. We went out that afternoon and bought some bicycle locks ourselves as we wanted to secure it as soon as possible. I let the rep know this and said we are would be leaving them there after we left. There was no offer the reimburse us or anything which was disappointing. It wasn't a lot of money but would have been a nice gesture. The owner came later that day with his own lock which was too big to fit anyway.
I suspect it was just an opportunistic thief, and we didn't have any further issues, but we made sure we locked the gate every time after that.
The only other thing that could be improved was the bed linen. It was not changed the whole time we were there. There were fresh towels and tea towels delivered mid week, but it would have been nice to have fresh bed linen too, and I wouldn't have minded putting this on the beds myself.
