Villa Galio

The villa location was excellent, only a short walk to the marina including the restaurants and supermarkets. The covered terrace was great providing a large table for meals and a separate seating area. The sunbeds around the pool need replacing as the covers do not give sufficient support and you are laying on the hard plastic frame; equally a single parasol does not provide enough cover for the six beds. The general villa is clean although we felt that the swimming pool steps were in desperate need of a good clean. The wifi was almost unusable even for light use and although you do not go here to watch TV it should be noted that the only English speaking channel was news. It was disappointing that the kitchen did not provide any plastic cups or plates for safe use outdoors. The absence of an air conditioning until in the living room meant the majority of the villa was overly warm all day and night and the air conditioning units in the two downstairs bedrooms only worked at night, not early afternoon. The upstairs bedroom and bathroom can only be accessed from outdoors.

We’re pleased that we chose Villa Galio as it a well maintained and well equipped villa in a good, fairly quiet location in a residential area. It’s about a 10 minute walk down to the marina where there’s a range of bars and restaurants and a small supermarket. Cala d’Or town is about 15-20 min walk. There’s also a bigger Mercadona about 1km away (where we bought stuff to go on the BBQ that sits at the bottom of the garden). There were 4 of us on holiday but, there is plenty of space to take 6 in the villa. We had a wonderful time, especially chilling around the pool, and had the pleasure of meeting the owner (who popped in as a couple of small jobs needed to be completed but which did not disturb us).

The villa was lovely to look at from afar, although it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly before we arrived and also the pool was dirty the whole time we was there I had to use the net everyday to clean it before I could let my children get in it. Also there was green algae around the whole edge of the pool which needed scrubbing off and someone had already wrote “clean me” in the algae (I have photo to prove) so I’m assuming whoever stayed there before which had still not been cleaned but when I rang up to ask for the pool to be cleaned I was told it would be looked into and then someone came to the villa from solmar villas and just said the man came and cleaned it with a spray! which clearly he had not as I was up most day at 7:30 AM and the net was dry every morning as I had to use it and it was still dirty right up till the day we left. There was part of a broken tree at the end of the garden that was just left on the floor by the BBQ so I had to make sure my 5 year old twins stayed away from it. The maids came and gave us new towels once but didn’t change the beds just tucked the sheets in. There was dirty food marks and cup rings in the kitchen and on the coffee table and dining table when we arrived, also the front of the fridge was all covered in rust marks and looked beaten up. We’re was no cleaning spray or extra toilet roll provided so I had to go and buy it all myself and clean what I could before we could use anything and buy toilet roll as 1 toilet roll for 7 people for a week was not enough. No bin bags provided to remove our waste so I had to buy them aswell. There was metal bottle caps left on the floor under the sun loungers when we arrived and one in the pool so I had to do a check to make sure there was nothing dangerous my kids could hurt themselves on. The second day we was there workman was digging up the floor on the pavement outside the villa at 8am for a few hours. Its a shame as we loved the privacy of the place being all to ourselves but for the money I paid for the villa I expected more so it has slightly put me off wanting to do another holiday as this was our first family holiday but it was slightly shadowed by all the issues.
