Villa Adele

On the first night we were in the Villa, we went to bed around 11PM. We made sure all the doors and windows locked but during the night someone came in, enter each of the bedrooms and took all the cash from everyone’s bags and wallets. The police came the next morning and found out that the last rental of last season in November the same thing happened. They think that someone has a key to the Villa. There is five doors into the Villa and the house has no real security at all. They have some locks and some latch’s but the police said they are easy to override. The security alarm is only for the front door (with internal motions detectors) and not any of the other doors and windows. You can’t lock up the house and set a nighttime alarm from inside the Villa. The local agent came to help us with the police. She seemed to us to be trying to get us to admit that we left the house unlocked and to blame us for letting this happening. She only admitted that the earlier break happened after the police told us about it. The agent said she could find us another Villa but we decided that whoever has the key would not come back after taking all of our cash (about €4,500 in total). The agent didn’t have a key to the maid room which has a door that would gain outside access. This may have been the way they got in. The agent who was very nice made an attempt to go and out to get a lock for the door. Upon returning she came back with what I would call a small gym bag lock which she made an attempt to install. She ended up with a lock on the door but with the screws not flush with the wall it but it wouldn’t stop anyone from using the door. We spent the remaining week at the Villa we all had chairs in front of our doors at night. I asked to have someone call we from the company in England but no one has gotten back to me. I was going to see what kind of compilation they would offer for their total lack of disclosure and due diligence. The agent did reach out later in the week and say that they are installing new security and locks. But this company has several other Villa in the area but none of them seems to have cameras or motion detections on the outside of the building. I would not rent in this area again without knowing that there were cameras on the outside of the houses. Most if the private house had cameras on the houses. The Villa was as detailed in other reviews. It’s not luxurious, very old furniture and needs a major upgrade, but the house itself worked for us lot of space but may not be for everyone. I am very disappointed that we didn’t know that there was a security issue. We would not have stayed here had we known. We would never stay in this part of the Algarve again. What happened to us was nothing short of a home invasion and we are very lucky that no one woke up and was injured or worse. The lack of any responsibility or remorse from the rental company is to my mind unbelievable.
