Villa Candeias

Wir hatten eine super Woche in Villa Candeias. Die Villa hat eine gute ruhige Lage und nähe zum Strand. Für eine Gruppe wie uns ist sie perfekt. Alles hat gut funktioniert und Solmar Villas war immer präsent obwohl die Übergabe wie auch die Abgabe automatisch erfolgte. Die Villa ist absolut zum empfehlen.

Thoughly enjoyed our stay, weather was not so good but the villa was big enough to accommodate us all without being on top of each other. Would highly recommend the villa.

The villa was very good overall, with lots of communal space, a large heated pool and plenty of bedrooms for 14 of us. The location is good, a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 15 minutes to the nearest supermarket. However the main problem for us was all the steps in the property. I noted on the photos that there is a step down from the hallway into the kitchen but was not aware that there are also steps from the dining area down to the lounge (it is not obvious in the photos) and then further steps up to one of the bedrooms on the ground floor, so be aware. A member of our group has some memory and mobility problems and is at risk of falling. We allocated a room downstairs on the level, but getting to the kitchen from the bedroom meant going up a few steps then down another one to go and make a cuppa. Going outside and cutting across the patio would have been safer, however there is a steep step up into the kitchen from outside, which she needed help to get up and down. The last villa we stayed in (and many of the villas advertised) have a mobility statement. This one didn’t, but could really do with one. The bedrooms were nice with comfortable beds and each had its own bathroom. Some of the bathrooms were very cramped and I kept banging the door when going into ours as the bidet was right behind it, stopping the door from opening properly. It also had a window sealed shut and was part of the shower cubicle. There was no ventilation or fan it there so it got a bit steamy and damp smelling at times. From what I saw, most of the other bathrooms had an opening window or ventilation though. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of fridge space, although a bit cramped when a few of you are in there together getting drinks and snacks etc. It could do with more glasses as we soon ran out during the day. I ended up putting my hair scrunchie around mine so I could identify my glass and reuse it. You could wash up in the the sink, however as another review has stated, the water takes ages to heat up and it never got hot enough to wash up by hand as I gave up due to all the water being wasted while waiting. I am talking about 15 minutes or so and you could make a snack and a cup of tea while waiting, after which time it was barely lukewarm. The outside area was great with plenty of shade and 2 large patio tables so we could eat together (the table in the dining room was not big enough for us all to sit together). The pool was a good size and due to the solar heating, was used every day. The pool men came to clean it a couple of times and topped the water up so it was always clean and clear. There is a room off the patio area with inflatables to use which was a good idea, although we had brought some ourselves from our last villa holiday. The only negative is that getting in and out was difficult if you have mobility problems as there is no rail by the steps into the pool. We put the large parasol with a heavy base there which solved the problem and gave you something to hold on to for stability as you went in. Overall, despite the negativity, the villa is very good and I would book again but possibly with a smaller group with no mobility issues. I assume a lot of people go out to eat but we, as a family, like to sit together and spend time together. There are some great takeaways that deliver so that you don’t have to cook all the time and some restaurants within walking distance. All in all, we had a great week away and Solmar villas are very helpful with a number to contact if there are any problems.
