A small coastal town and seaside resort just 20 kilometres from the capital of Crete, Heraklion. Agia Pelagia offers a small beach offering water sports and diving opportunities and a good choice of restaurants, bars, cafés and shops; but no raucous nightlife, it is mainly a family beach resort, excellently positioned for just relaxing or sightseeing around this fascinating part of Crete.

Just east of Agia Pelagia is the sandy beach of Lygaria, where you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds, or dine at the beach front tavernas. Fortunately Lygaria is protected from the north winds so the sea in the bay is normally calm.
