However, fiestas in Menorca are always lavish and extravagant, featuring many processions, great music, dancing and wonderful food and drink. Many of the island’s towns have fiestas at different times of the year on top of the main Menorcan ones.
Here is just a short selection of the Menorcan delights you could experience whilst enjoying a holiday at a luxury villa in Cala En Forcat:
- Fiesta of Sant Joan – Held in Ciutadella, 23rd – 24th June.
- Fiesta of Sant Antoni – 17th January, usually the craft fair joins onto the celebrations.
- Larger towns have their Annual Carnival on the Thursday after Ash Wednesday.
- Any De Sa Desgracia “Our Year of Disgrace” – To commemorate the day when Ciutadella underwent a brutal destruction led by the Turkish troops, held on the 9th July.
- Open Air Markets – held in the Plaza de Mercat each day and the Friday/Saturday markets held in Plaza de Es Born. There is also a market in Ciutadella. They have stalls offering fruit and vegetables, leather goods, local produce and souvenirs.
The shops situated in close proximity to the villas in Cala En Forcat are mostly supermarkets and souvenir shops. If you’re planning to revel in a bit of retail therapy you’ll have to venture further afield – to Ciutadella - to find designer stores and vintage boutiques. There’s some great shopping to be done in Ciutadella.
Previously the capital city of Menorca, Ciutadella is positioned in the west of the island. It’s an old Moorish town, as displayed by its architecture, history and culture. There are many landmarks to be viewed in the town. As previously mentioned, the town centre is the main shopping zone for tourists staying at the local resorts – including Cala En Forcat – making for a great day out!
Ciutadella is located 50km from Mahon (MAH) Airport, and the transfer time is between 45 minutes to an hour.
