We offer a selection of villas in Can Picafort, a delightful holiday resort some 60km North East of Mallorca's capital Palma at the eastern end of the Bay of Alcudia, on the north coast of Majorca.
The town of Santa Margalida itself actually lies approximately 10km inland of C'an Picafort, and this is where most of the resident population of the area live.
C'an Picafort is not a purpose built tourist resort, however, the influx of visitors to the island transformed it from a small fishing village with less than 200 inhabitants in 1960 to an important tourist centre with 8,750 hotel beds at the beginning of the 1970's. Little now remains of the original fishing village, although the resort has retained a small working harbour from where a number of pleasure trips also depart several times each day. It is now recognised as a modern resort blessed with beautiful sandy beaches and this is why our C'an Picafort villas are so popular with families.
The resort has a wide traffic free beachside promenade, which is lined with restaurants
and bars running from the marina and fishing harbour, to the more modern Son Baulo area of the town, which is a further 2km away to the east. The beach is very clean and does have good facilities.
For beach lovers of all ages, the best of the resorts two main beaches is found in the Baulo district too,
Other than the bars and restaurants, the coastal resort itself doesn’t offer many tourist attractions, however, nearby in the Baulo district you will find a protected nature reserve with Mediterranean tortoises, red pheasants, hares, rabbits, weasels, dormice and Algerian hedgehogs, all of which contribute to making this area of great environment significance.
There is a bus service to Muro and Alcudia and will set you back a little over €1, alternatively the same trip is about €11 euros by taxi.
The festivities of the patron saint of Santa Margarita take place on July 20, the day of Holy Margaret. Even more important is the first Sunday of September, day of the Devout Holy Saint Catherine Thomas. On this latter day one of the most typical processions of the island takes place. Already documented in 1850, a great number of people dressed with regional costumes take part in the procession, walking through the streets staging the Saint's life.
