Son Serra de Marina

Son Serra de Marina is a little known coastal village often referred to as a hidden gem and idela for anyone wanitng and relaxing holiday.

It is situated slightly further south along the coast from Can Picafort in the region of Santa Margalida with a population of just over 500. The town was originally developed in teh 1950's as a weekend holiday resort for Mallorquians to escape the busy cities, this has meant that although there are no hotels in teh areas there are some fantasic self catering options available and the facilities you would expect in a holiday resort.

Transfer time from Palma is around an hour, the journey is simple to follow and once you turn off the main MA12 coast road down towards Son Serra de Marina you are welcomed by a pretty tree lined boulevard giving you a taste of the town and what is to follow.

Walking up the west coast leads you to the popular holiday resort of C’an Picafort with it's row upon row of restuarants, hotels and shops.

For those who enjoy walking, as there are some excellent walks on both the east and west side of Son Serra de Marina.

The beach at Son Serra de Marina is 400 metres long and sandy, and at either end of the town are the beaches of Son Real and Sa Canova as well. These beaches are beautiful unspoilt beaches and facilities for naturalists. Son Real can be reached by walking along the coast beyond the Marina while Sa Canova beach joins up with the eastern end of Son Serra de Marina, just beyond the Sunset Bar.

As with most of the bay of Alcudia, Son Serra de Marina is opular with surfers and the area is Mallorca’s leading surfing and para-surfing centre.

Although the region isn't commonly promoted as a holiday destination, it does attract a lot of day visitors who take to the beach or stroll around the streets visiting the bars and restaurants which, considering the size of the town, are in abundance. Suprisingly though there are only a handful of shops including a chemist (Farmacía).
