The resort of Playa Blanca is in the south of Lanzarote, only 33 kilometres from Arrecife Airport. It was once a small fishing village and has now turned into a bustling port; it is the most recently developed tourist resort. A holiday villa rental in Playa Blanca is great for both families and couples.

The beaches in Playa Blanca make up a nine kilometre stretch along the coast – there are three beaches, all safe and sandy. They are sheltered and ideal for sunbathing and swimming.

The Playa Blanca market is held at the new Marina Rubicon on a Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with a good selection of clothes, jewellery and gifts. The market in Teguise on a Sunday is well worth a visit. It features stores selling a wide variety of items – all of the cobbled streets are filled with traders.

Playa Blanca Fiestas/Festivals

The carnival is held in Playa Blanca every year just before Easter. The main procession runs through the town and finishes in the main square. The local fiesta is held in July. They also celebrate Canary Day (Dia de Canaries) on the 30th May, this commemorates the day Lanzarote gained its independence from Spain.

There are plenty of things to do whilst you stay at your luxury villa in Playa Blanca, from relaxing on the beach, to shopping in the new Marina Rubicon. There are plenty of water sports available on the beaches, including the Rubicon Dive Centre. There are also plenty of boat trips and excursions leaving from the port.

The Marina Rubicon has a harbour full of boats, surrounded by a selection of shops, exquisite restaurants and lively bars. From a tennis or paddle tennis match to sailing, windsurfing or diving courses, you can enjoy your favourite sport or learn something new in the impeccable facilities at the Marina.

Do some exercise, sign up for a fantastic trip on the 'Rubicat' catamaran, rent a kayak to explore the coast, relax beside the pool, or just browse in the boutiques, shops and art gallery along the promenade around the harbour. Playa Blanca is home to the ferry between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. There are two lines, leaving throughout the day.

Although it’s not a particularly historical place, there a few sights to see for history buffs staying at a villa in Playa Blanca. For example, you could check out Castillo de las Colarados or the lighthouse, Faro de Pechiguera. Going further afield there are many attractions in Lanzarote that are worth a visit when you opt for a luxury villa to rent in Playa Blanca.

There is one water park in Lanzarote called AquaLanza, located next to the Golf Club in Costa Teguise. It boasts a wide range of slides and pools, making it ideal for a family day out. The aquapark consists of attractions for all ages, including the ‘Kamikaze’, ‘Spiral’, ‘Fast-River’, a children’s swimming pool, restaurant area and souvenir shop.

Timanfaya National park is 50 km² of volcanic landscape, known as the ‘Fire Mountains’. The national park was built to protect the beauty of the volcanic landscape. Visiting the park will give you close-up views of the volcanoes and teach you a little about the history of the volcanic island.

El Golfo is a crater created by a volcano. It has filled with sea water, and the algae in the water have caused it to turn a deep green colour. Los Hervideros means ‘boiling waters’; there are caves and holes where lava used to run.

El Jardin del Cactus is a garden showing an impressive collection of cacti, featuring well over 1000 species. The restored windmill and strange metal sculptures make for an impressive contrast against the dry volcanic landscape.

Rancho Texas Theme Park

If you’re looking for some themed family fun during your stay at a private villa in Playa Blanca, then pay a visit to Rancho Texas Theme Park. Enjoy the old Wild West, see wild animals and have a night to remember with its country and western-themed nights. The park is located just outside Puerto Del Carmen.

• Lagomar is a house which was once owned by Omar Sharif; it was built by Cesar Manrique. There are now tours around the house, which stands on the side of a cliff

• The Santa Barbara castle is located on top of Guanapay Mountain which is right behind and overlooking Teguise. This castle used to be a watchtower in the 16th century. The castle, when used as a watchtower, has good views of the east and west coasts of Lanzarote. Santa Barbara castle is now a museum and allows tourists to venture in and learn about the history of Lanzarote.

There are a huge variety of restaurants along the promenade, overlooking the beach and harbour. Views of the lights from Fuerteventura make this a great setting for your evening meal.

The nightlife in Playa Blanca is fairly limited – the entertainment is restricted to the shows organised by the hotels. There is a kids’ disco, but those after some more lively entertainment during their stay will need to head to Puerto del Carmen, half an hour away by car.
